This asset manager was entering the natural capital investment space with a clear vision. Launching in 2020, they needed to build a global, multi-functional team with a specific focus on carbon, agriculture, and forestry investments. The market for such talent was challenging, particularly for candidates with both strong investment credentials and a deep understanding of natural capital. Adding to the complexity was the pre-profitability stage of the firm. Pre-first close, we focussed on a strong pitch to effectively engage top-tier professionals. The team also prioritised gender balance and broader DEI principles from day one.

We partnered with the firm with their early stage leadership, structuring the team build into strategic phases across C-suite, investment, strategy, impact, sales, and interim functions. With a strong focus on quality and diversity, we targeted candidates from infrastructure asset management, top-tier consulting, and investment banking to deliver the commercial rigour needed. For the investment team, we secured individuals with a proven track record in natural capital and carbon markets. Throughout the process, we embedded DEI principles—ensuring that every shortlist reflected not only technical excellence but also diversity of perspective and experience.
